Appeal for Gwadar
As you are well aware about the recent Tropical Cyclone PHET that hit Gwadar. Further submitted that the Cyclone has severely hit Gwadar on 4th & 5th June due to which district has received 370 ml rainfall resulting into massive destruction and displacement of more than 15000 families. The torrential rains and wind with speed of 100/h according to NDMA, has disturbed routine life in district Gwadar. All Kacha made huts/rooms/sheds, washrooms, kitchen, boundary walls have been damaged, source of livelihood (fisheries and livestock) have been suspended completely. Nearly 100 small fishing boats received major damages. The area is facing acute loses.

TROPICAL CYCLONE “PHET”
Backdrop
On 31 May 2010, tropical depression in Central Arabian Sea resulted into formation of tropical cyclone “PHET”. “PHET” struck Northeast tip of Oman coast last night and then hit coastal areas of Pakistan areas on Saturday evening 4th & 5th June with associated storm surge and rain.
Effects
- Strong Wind. Strong wind (up to 100 km/ hr) has been recorded in Gwadar district Pakistan during and after heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday.
- Heavy Rains. Wide spread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls accompanied by strong gusty winds was witnessed in Balochistan coastal areas between Saturday to Sunday.
- Urban / Flash Floods. Heavy rains may cause urban / flash flooding in Balochistan and Sindh including Karachi.
Most Affected Areas
- Coastal areas of Balochistan including (Jiwani, Gwadar, Pasni, and Ormara) have received Heavy Flash Flooding.
Response
- The local NGOs have formulated a disaster namely “Gwadar Disaster Response Forum (GDRF)” through which all relief activities along with the sharing of data and work done is being channelized. Daily meeting are held to discuss progress. SHADOW has been acted promptly after the disaster took place. It has remained in close contacts with district Govt. and played role to evacuate families specially females and children. The affected families have been shifted to nearby buildings of school.
Damages
All the Kaccha( local made rooms/huts/boundary wall shed washrooms/kitchens) have been damaged and the families were shelter less. The houses were demolished, sanitation system have destroyed, dirking water sources were suspended, road networks were disconnected, electricity remain disconnected, rain water is stagnant in the damaged houses converting the city into pond.

According to primary assessment done by the District Govt. An estimated no.
of 19303 families have been badly affected. The vulnerable families are helpless needs to be supported for relief and rehabilitation.
Target beneficiary and area
SAHDOW (a local Gwadar based organization) humbly appeals to MUSLIM
HAND for an urgent assistance to SHADOW to undertake relief and rehabilitation in following Union Councils. Detail is also attached as Excel file in highlighted areas as Affected HHs in red color;
1. Gwadar Central: 2041 families
2. Gwadar North: 3178 families
3. Surbandar: 470 families
4. Pishukan: 1703 families
Total target families: 7392 families
Status of communication: All road networks from Gwadar to Karachi has been restored. Flight service is also operational. Telephone and mobile and email service are working
Space: Gwadar city has hotel service as well as space can be availed for operating smoothly.
