KARACHI: Balochistan National Party (BNP) Akhtar Mengal Group Karachi President Zahid Baloch, who was shot dead in an incident of target killing on Saturday evening, was laid to rest at the Rexor Line Graveyard in Lyari and no FIR of the incident has been registered yet.
Baloch was shot dead in Petal Wali Gali, Purana Golimar, within the jurisdiction of Gulbahar Police Station. He had stopped his motorcycle to talk on his mobile phone, when two armed men, riding a motorcycle, opened fired at him. His funeral prayers were offered at the Eid Gah Masjid in Lyari and were attended by various political leaders including Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNA Nabeel Gabol, PPP MPA Rafiq Engineer, PPP District South President Haji Qasim Baloch and others. On Sunday, tension still prevailed in the Baloch dominated areas, especially Lyari, where routine life was suspended because of aerial firing.
Baloch, who was known as Zahid BSO, was under observation by intelligence agencies and reliable sources in the agencies told Daily Times, on the condition of anonymity, that Baloch was a close aide of Lyari’s most prominent Mafioso, Rehman Dakait, and was also involved in Dakait’s escape from police custody in Lyari.
