QUETTA: If the armed Baloch groups come down from the mountains and surrender, the government will negotiate with them, Adviser on Interior Rehman Malik said on Wednesday. However, he warned that non-compliance with his offer would lead to government action to maintain the writ of the state. Talking to reporters at Quetta Airport on his arrival in the city, Malik said that no operation was being carried out in any part of the country. He said that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government had brought peace in most parts of the country since it took over, adding that the government had been constantly trying to resolve the Balochistan dispute peacefully. Efforts were being made to please those who picked up guns and took to the mountains to wage a battle against the state due to the wrong policies of the previous government, he added. Commenting on the issue of the missing persons in Balochistan, Malik said that the provincial government had provided a list of around 1,000 people to the federal government. These people, he said, had been taken into government custody, as there were multiple charges against them. staff report
