QUETTA: A traffic police constable was shot dead when unidentified assailants opened fire at him on Jinnah Road in front of Saleem Medical Complex on Wednesday night, police told APP.
The victim has been identified as Constable Muhammad Zaheer who was on duty when unidentified armed men targeted him. He was received severe bullet wounds on his head and died instantly. The assailants managed to flee.
Police have cordoned off the area and started search of the attackers. In another incident, a police constable was injured when unidentified men hurled a hand grenade in the city police station on Wednesday, police said. Injured police constable Nisar Ahmed was on duty inside the police station when he was attacked. He was shifted to the Civil Hospital immediately. The assailants managed to flee. Police have cordoned off the area.
A paramilitary soldier was killed and another injured in attacks on checkposts and a police station on Wednesday.
Sources said that the soldier of the Frontier Corps was killed when some people attacked a checkpost in the Lehri area of Sibi with rockets and heavy weapons. Many rockets exploded near the checkpost.
According to other sources, a checkpost in Kohlu came under rocket attack.
The rockets, however, exploded in an open area.
Meanwhile, a man lobbed a hand-grenade on the City Police station in a busy shopping area of Quetta. The grenade exploded inside the police station, injuring a sub-inspector of the anti-terror force.
