Balochistan refuses to accept new IGP

02.07.2008

QUETTA, July 1: Balochistan has refused to accept the appointment of senior police officer Syed Irshad Hussain as the new Inspector General of Police.

According to sources, a meeting of coalition partners held here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani discussed the issue of law and order and appointment of the new IG by the federal government.

“The coalition partners endorsed Mr Raisani’s proposal of not accepting Syed Irshad Hussain as the new IGP of Balochistan.”

Adviser to the Prime Minis-ter on Interior Rehman Malik is reported to be insisting on the appointment of Mr Hussain.

After his appointment by the federal government, Mr Hussain arrived in Quetta and spent four days here, but the chief minister refused to accept his joining report and asked the incumbent IGP, Mr Saud Gohar, to continue as the province’s police chief.
