KARACHI: A division bench of the Sindh High Court comprising Justice Dr Rana Muhammad Shamim and Justice Ghulam Dastagir A Shahani put off on Tuesday the hearing of a criminal acquittal application of Jalalur Rehman, convicted for the murder of Nawab Akbar Bugti’s son Salal Akbar Bugti.
The case was transferred from the Balochistan High Court to the Sindh High Court on the directions of the Supreme Court on a request from the applicant on apprehensions that the Bugti tribe may influence the case if it proceeded at the BHC.
When it came up for hearing before the SHC division bench, Justice Dr Rana Muhammad Shamim said, “not before me’” as he had consulted the applicant when he was under trial.
Applicant Jalalur Rehman alias Jalal Khan, son of Wadera Khan Muhammad, head of the Kalpar tribe is seeking nullification of the judgment dated July 31, 2000, as announced by Special Judge STA, Quetta wherein he was sentenced to undergo life imprisonment after being convicted. He submitted that the judgment was made on false grounds as no incriminatory evidence was proved against him and he prayed the court to set aside the judgment of the STA Special Judge. He also sought exemption from appearing, citing apprehensions of being killed by his rivals.
