QUETTA: The PPP on Sunday announced the formation of two committees to rehabilitate internally displaced persons and recover hundreds of missing Balochs. Senator Dr Babar Awan, the head of a reconciliatory committee on Balochistan, made the announcement during the third round of an in-depth interaction with journalists at the Quetta Press Club. Awan was in Quetta to prepare ground for the upcoming PPP-sponsored all parties’ conference on the unrest in Balochistan.
One committee will be responsible for the rehabilitation of thousands of displaced persons from the Marri and Bugti Tribal Areas, who were driven out of their homes because of a military operation launched by the previous government.
The committee responsible for the recovery of missing people will have six representatives, one from each division of Balochistan. The representatives, preferably to be legal professionals or political leaders, will provide details about the people missing from their respective areas. When reminded about the failure of a similar committee formed by the previous government, Awan said “bitter experiences of the past” would not recur. He said the PPP-led government believed that it had the ‘decisive opportunity’ to resolve all issues in Balochistan. malik siraj akbar
