Respected Waja,

21.06.2004

Respected Waja,

I could not open the news about the raid on Baloch tombs in Sindh as it is

as junk file and I can’t open such files. Could you kindly send it to me in

a different format? I’ll be very grateful to me.

The Baloch tombs in Sindh are not only as asset for Sindh but also of Baloch

which provide evidence of the Baloch presence and power in that province as

well as their civilization and socio-political power. Kaleem Lashari has

written an excellent thesis on these tombs but there is still a lot to be

done. Baloch tombs in Sindh are somehow studied but similar tombs are found

in Balochistan, especially in Ormada and Pasni where people are encroaching

the cemetry with their boundary walls and tombs are being destroyed on

daily basis.

No govt or voluntary organization is doing anything to save

our culture and civilization from destruction. Balochistan National

Alliance’s government of Akbar Bugti had sanctioned funds and given a place

in Turbat for Kech Museum and Cultural Centre but the govt was dessolved

before any further step could be taken and later govts did not follow the

matter. Now the building is the office of the tehsildar.

I had a couple of meetings with Zubaida Jalal and previous ministers and political parties and one of the first things that I ever mention with them is the safeguard of culture but it seems that culture is no one’s interest. The only two times that I have had the occasion to speak to Zubaida Jalal were when I suggested her to establish the Kech Museum and Cultural Centre and sanction funds so that M.A. classes are started in Turbat college because majority of the students from Makran are no more capable of going to Quetta for study.

But each time she started her responses with praises of General

Musharaf and ends it with the same name. It seemed that I was sitting in

front of a Mulla who starts every sentence with the praises of God and ends

it with the same name. I told her that she repeats constantly that the

General sahab is so much caring about Balochistan why she doesn’t request

him to give these two projects to us and in a later date also a medical

college she answered to me that she has millions of dollars from foreign

donors and she doesn’t know where to spend all this money! It is something

under her powers as she doesn’t lack funds and power.

I advised her to do something for poor Makran so that she is remembered in some projects but our last meeting had occurred 4 years back and nothing has happened so far.

I am sure that nothing will happen in the near future as I don’t see any

political party or figure in Balochistan who is concerned at all about

culture and identity.

May God help the Baloch,

Badalkhan
