 US to open consulate in Balochistan, says Patterson
 QUETTA: US Ambassador in Pakistan, Anne W Patterson has said that an American consulate will be set up in Quetta to oversee the development activities carried out by the Americans in Balochistan.
“The consulate will be set up to monitor the development activities being carried out by the US in Balochistan. It will also ensure a close liaison between the Baloch people and the US, and would provide visa facility to the people of Balochistan,” she said, while refuting the allegation that the consulate was intended to monitor activities in Iran and Afghanistan at a press conference here on Wednesday.

 Needs of Balochistan flood victims unmet: UNHCR
 QUETTA: The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) representative in Pakistan Mengesha Kebede on Tuesday drew attention to the plight of Balochistan’s flood survivors whose basic needs have not been met as yet. Kebede also complained that the mainstream media had largely forgotten about the flood victims in the province.
“The situation in Balochistan is worst; 1.2 million flood survivors are under shelters and half of them came from Sindh. The province was forgotten and the media did not play its role regarding the problems faced by survivors in Balochistan,” he observed.

 BNP-Mengal leader among 2 killed in Kalat
 QUETTA: Two people, including a Balochistan National Party- Mengal (BNP-M) leader, were shot dead in Kalat on Tuesday. According to sources, Kalat district BNP leader Nawabuddin Nechari and his friends Saffar Khan and Mullah Bakhsh were on their way on the national highway when unidentified assailants opened indiscriminate fire on their vehicle. As a result, two of them died on the spot while Mullah Bakhsh suffered multiple bullet injuries.  QUETTA: At least eight people, including six children, suffering from gastroenteritis and other waterborne diseases have lost their lives during two days in Dera Murad Jamali while hundreds of affectees were being treated in hospitals and field hospitals by the Army Medical Corps.According to sources, the epidemics broke out in Dera Murad Jamali and adjoining areas where a large number of affected people had taken shelter. QUETTA: The Balochistan government and security agencies are reportedly harassing motorcyclists in the insurgency-hit province, which has caused a sense of insecurity amongst the citizens. For the past couple of days, police and other law enforcement agencies had made it a common practice to detain motorcyclists for hours without asking them to show the documents of their vehicles. QUETTA: A bullet-riddled body was found in Khuzdar on Thursday, some 350 kilometres from Quetta. According to security sources, the body was found from Bagh Bana area of Khuzdar and was brought to hospital for autopsy. The deceased has been identified as Tahir Muhammad. Sources said that unidentified people had kidnapped Tahir Muhammad from Koshak area of Khuzdar a few days ago. Marks on Tahir’s body indicate he was severely tortured before his death.

 BBA boycott over advocate kidnapping
 QUETTA: Balochistan Bar Association (BBA) observed a boycott on Tuesday over the abduction of two lawyers, Munir Ahmed Mirwani and Zaman Mari.The courts wore a deserted look as lawyers did not appear in the sessions court and before judicial magistrate, and all the cases were adjourned. The boycott was observed in Quetta, Mastung, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbela, Sherani, Turbat, Gwadar, Naushki, Sibi, Bolan, Mand, Panjgur, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Ziarat, Pishin, Loralai and other townships. According to a brief statement issued by the BBA, the strike will continue for three days in protest against the kidnapping. The BBA has accused intelligence agencies.

 Gastro, cholera claim 12 more lives in Balochistan
 QUETTA: At least 12 more people including eight children lost their lives on Tuesday due to gastroenteritis, cholera and other epidemics in flood affected-areas of Balochistan.A report said that three children had died in district headquarters hospital in Dera Murad Jamali where hundreds of affected people had been admitted.  2 bodies found in Killi Baro
 QUETTA: Two bodies were found near the Shal Kot Police Station Bugti street area in Killi Baro on Saturday.According to the official sources, the victims had received bullets in their heads. The bodies were taken to the Bolan Medical Teaching Hospital for autopsy. The police handed over the bodies to their relatives for burial.

QUETTA: Two officials of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Frontier Corps (FC) respectively were shot dead on the RCD Highway near Mastung, around 50 kilometres from Quetta, on Thursday. According to official sources, IB Inspector Abdullah and FC official Zahid Hussain were travelling to the FC camp in Mastung when unidentified armed motorcyclists intercepted them and opened indiscriminate firing.
