Subject: Military Intelligence torture of Baluchi lecturer Hassan Janan Badini
Sept. 3, 2008
ATTN. Ambassador Hussain Haqqani
3517 International Ct., NW
Washington DC 20008
Dear Ambassador Hussain Haqqani:
I am appealing to you to intervene urgently on behalf of Baluchistan University lecturer Hassan Janan Badini, who was abducted by the Military Intelligence on August 25, 2008 in Quetta.
Badini has now been shifted to a military torture camp and is being forced to confess crimes he never committed.
Badini, who is a respected Baluchi language lecturer at the Baluchistan University, has been arrested on the ridiculous charge of trying to hurl a hand grenade on a police station.
You might know the Baluch demanding independence from Pakistan's misrule have agreed to a ceasefire and there has been complete peace in Baluchistan for the last two days. But the torture of Hassan Janan Badini, may force the Baluch to rethink their position.
Federal interior minister Rahman Malik recently admitted that as many as 1100 person are still missing in Baluchistan's fifth war of liberation.
You might also be well aware that Pakistan army burned alive four people in Dera Bugti in Baluchistan, The Guardian newspaper reported. Also a senator from Baluchistan, Mir Israrullah Zehri, who is reportedly a tout of the dreaded Inter Services Intelligence and takes his dictation from the ISI and MI, recently, defended the killing of Baluch women.
I must bring to your notice under your predecessor Pakistan lied to the U.S. Congress about the whereabouts of Dr. Safdar Sarki, who was abducted and tortured by the Pakistani Military Intelligence for 20 months, on a suspicion of pushing the U.S. agenda.
You know quite well that Baluchistan was annexed forcibly by Pakistan in March 1948 and the Baluch only want Pakistan army out of their homeland. No Baluch has ever attacked any Punjabi-Mohajir interests outside Baluchistan.
I do hope the Punjabi-Mohajir army will also respect the right to life of Baluch intellectuals and teachers.
Please have Badini freed immediately.
Truly,
Ahmar Mustikhan
