PAKISTAN: The people of Balochistan have to bury the mutilated bodies of their loved ones almost every day of the week
 January 31, 2012
56 more bullet riddled bodies of disappeared persons were found in Balochistan during the last six monthsThe disappearances and extrajudicial killings of Baloch activists continue despite claims from the government and security forces that extrajudicial killings have been stopped. The writ of the state is at its minimal and all the responsibilities of maintaining law and order have been left with security forces and banned militant groups. A new civilian organization with the name of Tehreek-e-Nefaz-e-Aman Balochistan (TNAB) was allegedly established by the state intelligence agencies which claim the killings of political workers and students in the name of maintaining peac... details >>

Pakistan: To-date 206 disappeared persons have been extra judicially killed in Balochistan during the past 15 months
The situation of Balochistan is no different to that of the former East Pakistan (Bangladesh) when the military carried out operations and killed more than 300,000 people in the guise of protecting ideological boundaries. The government does not consider extrajudicial killings anything out of the ordinary and one of the reasons for this is that they have lost all control over the military, Para-Military forces and state intelligence agencies that control the province. These military forces brook no interference into their affairs and use 'national security' and the protection of ideological boundaries to justify the killings and disappearances of innocent persons, particularly students.... details >>

NEW YORK: The Pakistan government should immediately end widespread disappearances of suspected militants and activists by the military, intelligence agencies, and the paramilitary Frontier Corps in Balochistan, Human Rights Watch said in a report released today. Several of those “disappeared” were among the dozens of people extrajudicially executed in recent months in the resource-rich and violence-wracked province. The 132-page report, “We Can Torture, Kill, or Keep You for Years’: Enforced Disappearances by Pakistan Security Forces in Balochistan,” documents dozens of enfo... details >>

HRW calls for end to killing of Baloch activists
NEY YORK: Pakistan’s government should immediately act to end the epidemic of killings of suspected Baloch militants and opposition activists by the military, intelligence agencies, and the paramilitary Frontier Corps (FC) in the southwestern province of Balochistan, Human Rights Watch said on Wednesday. Across Balochistan, since January 2011, at least 150 people have been abducted and killed and their bodies abandoned – acts widely referred to as “kill and dump” operations, in which Pakistani security forces engaged in counterinsurgency operations may be responsible. Assailants have also carried out targeted killings of opposition leaders and activists. Human Rights Watch has extensively do... details >>

Iran executions send a chilling message
 30 March 2010
Recent developments in Iran have prompted fears that the Iranian authorities are once more using executions as a tool to try and quell political unrest, intimidate the population and send a signal that dissent will not be tolerated. There was a noticeable surge in the rate of executions at the time of mass protests over last year's disputed Presidential elections. Although many of the executions were for criminal offences committed before the unrest, they sent a chilling message to those involved in protests. One hundred and twelve people were put to death in the eight weeks between the June election and the re-inauguration of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in early August- al... details >>

Appeal: Stop Systematic Violation Of Basic Human Rights Of Baloch Prisoners In Iran
The minister also said that they were expecting massive confessions by Rigi which clearly indicates that the minister had already planned barbaric tortures and forced confessions and TV shows on the state-run TV and media. These forced confessions are then used in the court against the prisoner to convict them. According to some news agencies Mr. Rigi has already made some confessions on TV.

Balochistan: The Plight of Disappeared in Balochistan
 Monday, 25 January 2010
The cycle of enforced disappearance in Balochistan started several years ago. No practical measure to fight this has been taken by the government except some shallow statements.
Below is an article published by Zaib Khan: “My brother was picked up by the state intelligence agencies when he was returning home from office,” recalled Hani Baloch, the sister of a missing Baloch person, as she broke into tears while saying this. Baloch Women’s Panel (BWP) has been observing a hunger strike camp in front of Quetta Press Club for the past many years for the recovery of several missing persons. The participants of this camp are predominantly the o... details >>

Human Rights groups call for recovery of missing and unlawfully detained people.
Below is an article published by Dawn:Even more political workers have been picked up in recent days, says VBMP chairman Nasrullah Baloch. And while the province’s home ministry has issued a list of 992 missing, several Baloch political and human rights groups have declared the list a “ploy to deceive the people.”The confusion regarding the number of missing is surprising, given that there are a number of political and human rights groups involved in collecting information on the missing from different parts of the province. VBMP, for example, is also working with the Marri Ittehad, ... details >>

 AHRC: Balochistan Situation Heating Up

Wednesday, 4 November 2009, 10:03 amPress Release: Asian Human Rights Commission
November 3, 2009
A Statement from Awami Jamhoori Ittehad and Insani Huqooq Ittehad forwarded by the Asian Human Rights Commission
A situation akin to 1971 is brewing in Balochistan. Radical nationalists advocating a separate state of Balochistan are steadily gaining popularity at the expense of those who continue to look for a solution within the federal framework.
The reasons for this surge in separatism are quite apparent. The people of Balochistan have a long list of grievances, and next to none have been addressed over the last 60 years. Instead of negotiations and redressing the wrongs, succes... details >>
