Balochistan gets major chunk in uplift funds, Owais told

QUETTA: The federal government has allocated a record amount of Rs 24.292 billion for the development projects of Balochistan under its Annual Development Programme (ADP) for financial year 2005-06.

Balochistan’s share becomes 12 per cent of the total federal development programme. These funds are in addition to the amount of Rs 7 billion provided for the Drought Control Programme-II.

These details were provided at briefing given to Balochistan Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani about the federal projects in Balochistan on Monday by ACS Development Major (retd) Nadir Ali.

Expressing thanks to the federal government for provision of record development funds, the governor hoped this would help a lot in expediting development in the province. Completion of these uplift projects would help provide basic facilities to the people and most of their problems would be resolved, he added.

The governor was also informed that the projects for which the funds had been allocated included Mirani dam, Subakzai dam, Kachhi canal, Kirthar canal, expansion of Pat Feeder canal, construction of 43 sub-canals in the Pat Feeder command area, National Drainage Programme, feasibility study of construction of 200 dams in various areas of Balochistan, electrification of 200 villages under the Village Electrification Programme, project of 220 KV Dadu-Khuzdar transmission line, project of oil and gas and coal exploration, improvement and expansion of the coastal highways, second phase of the construction of Gwadar deep-sea port, establishment of an institute of technology in Gwadar, establishment of cadet colleges in Killa Saifullah, Punjgur and Jaffarabad, establishment of poly technique institutes at the district level, implementation on the Education for All (EFA) Programme, improvement of the universities in Balochistan, establishment of a Centre of Advance Studies in Vaccinology and Biotechnology, establishment of vocational training centre, institute of special education in Sibi, promotion of information technology in Balochistan, project of increasing underground water reservoirs, a project for the expansion and promotion of trickle irrigation system, construction of the football stadium in Pishin and Kharan and boxing gym in Quetta and the projects like prevention of the diseases among the animals, provision of healthcare facilities for them and access to justice programme.
