Rs10bn package for Quetta soon

25.08.2005

QUETTA, Aug 24: Chief Minister Jam Mohammad Yousuf has said a Rs10-billion package has been prepared for Quetta for providing basic amenities to people and employment opportunities to youths and resolve the water shortage problem.

He said that the federal government would provide funds for the package for the provincial capital and stated that President Musharraf was taking personal interest in the development of the city.

He said that the major problem of Quetta was water and the government’s priority was to settle this issue on a permanent basis.

Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday, the chief minister claimed that foolproof arrangements have been made in the province to maintain law and order on the local bodies’ polling day whereas the army would also remain on alert and in case of an emergency would be called in to assist the civil administration.

Jam Yousuf was confident that the people would repeat the spirit of Aug 18 when the citizens witnessed the exemplary passage of peaceful polls.

He said that no one would be allowed to create hurdles during the election process on Aug 25.

He reiterated the claim that during the first phase of the local bodies’ polls the people voted for pro-development panels and expressed hope that during the second phase the electors would again back the groups that favour the ongoing uplift programme in the province.

The chief minister rejected the allegations of anti-progress forces that the government did not implement the development projects announced in the public meetings saying the existence of development projects on the ground belie the propaganda of the anti-progress elements.

Jam Yousuf asserted that the completion of mega-projects would on the one hand bring prosperity to the people and on the other would get the people rid of domination of the so-called champions of political rights of the people of Balochistan.

Replying to a question, he said that the provincial government would soon decide to grant ownership to the residents of government colonies, and added that steps were being taken to provide facilities to the inhabitants of the katchi abadi in the city.
