ISLAMABAD: The Japanese Embassy on Monday extended $84,397 to Qandeel Model Public School in Quetta for its expansion. According to a press statement, Nobuaki Tanaka, the Japanese ambassador, signed the grant contract with Noshaba Shafique, the school principal.
Japan considers Balochistan a priority region for assistance. Qandeel Model Public School has been providing quality education to the under privileged communities at minimum cost. Japan granted $65,878 to the school in 2003. The assistance was meant for development of the primary section of the school to accommodate more children and to provide formal education to the local residents.
The new assistance will help in upgrading the school to high level, including the provision of proper infrastructure. Almost 13 classrooms, a library, a laboratory and a computer room will be constructed along with all necessary furniture. The school will be provided 20 sets of computers, printers, scanners and a projector.
The grant has been provided under Japan’s grant assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP). The scheme was initiated in 1989. Japan has extended $12.3 million so far to 230 small-scale social sector development projects across Pakistan.
