QUETTA: Balochistan Minister for Irrigation and Power Maulana Attaullah Lango on Thursday said the government was implementing Balochistan Effluent Disposal Through Right Bank Outfall Drain Project (EDTRBOP) at a cost of Rs 4,480 million to save fertile land from water logging.
Talking to the news agency here on Thursday, he said the project, being sponsored by Wapda, would save over one million acres of fertile land from water logging in the province.
"It is a joint venture between Wapda and Balochistan Irrigation department, as some of the components of the project are being executed by provincial Irrigation department," the minister said. "Keeping in view the pace of work on the project I am optimistic that it will be completed before stipulated time."
Referring to the components of the project, the minister said these included construction of Usta Mohammad Drainage Unit, which alone will cost Rs 400 million and construction of 16-kilometre long irrigation channel for utilisation of 400 drainage effluents for irrigation purpose to be completed at a cost of Rs 122 million.
Besides, the minister said extension of the Hairdin drain from Hairdin pumping station to Miro Khan, extension of the outfall drain from Chutti to the Miro Khan zero point, construction of six-kilometre long outfall drain from Kot Magsi Road to Chutti on Sind Balochistan borders, remodelling of main NARA valley drain from Hamal Lake to Sehvan Sharif in Sindh and construction of Miro Khan complex to Hamal Lake outfall will also be done under the project.
"Balochistan Irrigation department will construct Usta Mohammad Drainage Unit and 16-km long irrigation channel for utilisation of 400 drainage effluents for irrigation purpose", he added. Wapda will execute rest of the components of the project, the minister said. |
